This moment demands every lever of power be used to protect our communities.

In the last two weeks, Musk and Trump have begun to scrub government websites and documents of references to DEI, racial equity, and the existence of trans people. They signed an executive order that uses smokescreen antisemitism to divide our communities.1 The administration is challenging the laws that hold our fragile democracy together and keep it a democracy. They have dialed up attacks on immigrant communities, trans youth, the civil service, and their political opponents.

As Jews, it’s hard not to think of 1933, the year Hitler rose to power and the start of the deadly Nazi regime. The echoes of 1933 are loud and clear. But the speed is accelerated. Their attacks are a bombardment.

In 1933, it was not too late to stop what happened by the end of 1945. Today, our history tells us what might come next — but there is time to intervene.
