Hi John,
Here’s a bad idea you can stop now: carbon tariffs.
Carbon tariffs are such a bad idea, even Prime Minister Justin Trudeau hasn’t imposed them.
But Liberal leadership candidate Mark Carney announced he wants to slap carbon tariffs on imports coming into Canada from countries that don’t meet his environmental standards. He calls it a “carbon border adjustment mechanism.” But you know what that really means: carbon tariff.
Think about that.
Tariffs are a bad idea that make things more expensive for everyone.
But the timing couldn’t be worse. The United States doesn’t have a carbon tax so it could be a prime target for Carney’s carbon tariffs. How do you think Americans would react to threats of a Canadian carbon tariff?
(On a side note: The U.S. reduced emissions by more than 14 per cent between 2005 and 2021. Meanwhile, Canada reduced its emissions by 1.4 per cent.)
No matter what happens in the Liberal leadership race or the next election, you know we have to fight bad ideas like carbon tariffs. If you don’t, they take root and grow.
NOW is the time to fight carbon tariffs.
You can stop carbon tariffs by signing the petition TODAY.
Will you sign the PETITION to fight carbon tariffs?
