One of the first actions of the new Trump administration has been to issue executive orders targeting Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI). In this week’s Climate Justice newsletter, we look at the ways that diverse leadership and Indigenous knowledge have shaped the fight for the planet. First, how does local Indigenous knowledge continue to booster climate change solutions? Next in a piece from Nonprofit Quarterly Magazine’s fall 2024 issue, “Supporting the Youth Climate Justice Movement,” how centering Black leaders in environmental spaces is crucial to the movement. Then, disabled people face the most barriers in evacuating—and surviving—climate disasters. What would a new, inclusive climate safety net look like? Finally, in the wake of the LA fires, how can we forge a healthier relationship with fire? In California, FireGeneration Collaborative is striving for more reciprocal fire management and policy by centering diverse young people and Indigenous communities.
