** President Trump rightly separated energy from his across-the-board tariffs with Canada. It was a good first step. For the next round, he should exempt them altogether.
------------------------------------------------------------
Just The News ([link removed]) (2/6/25) reports: "President Donald Trump Saturday moved to impose tariffs on Canada and Mexico, hoping to pressure the countries to do more to control drug trafficking and illegal immigration into the U.S. Almost immediately after productive discussions with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau Monday, Trump agreed to pause the sanctions for one month. Negotiations are continuing, and Trump hasn’t offered certainties about the future of his proposed tariffs. Should negotiations break down, energy experts say the tariffs could have impacts on American energy, ranging anywhere from minor increases in gasoline and oil prices to serious impacts to American refineries...Higher oil prices can have wide impacts on the economy, as so much of the economy runs on fossil fuels. As with the American Energy Alliance, Robert
Rapier, a chemical engineer and editor in chief of Shale Magazine, said he would rather see a resolution than an ongoing or escalating trade war...Pyle, with the American Energy Alliance, said that he understands the goals Trump has in trying to create a more equal trade relationship with its neighbors, but he’s hoping Trump, if he does enact tariffs, will create an exception for energy products."

"The truth is there is no green energy. No energy is clean. No energy is dirty. There are only challenges, solutions and tradeoffs. At the time of already high energy costs, choosing reliable, fossil fuel-backed energy is of paramount importance."

You thought USAID was bad? Wait until the DOGE bros comb through the Department of Energy...

(2/6/25) reports: "A member of the so-called Department of Government Efficiency has started work at the U.S. Department of Energy, according to a person familiar with DOGE's operations. DOGE staffers work with their assigned departments as government employees, with the appropriate legal permission and security clearances, the person told Scripps News. But there are few details at this stage as to what level of access the employee has and what work they are attempting to accomplish at the Department of Energy...The Department of Government Efficiency is enabled via executive order from President Donald Trump, charged with 'modernizing Federal technology and software to maximize governmental efficiency and productivity.' The order directs all relevant government agencies to establish teams of DOGE representatives."
I didn't think it was possible, but I actually miss Mitt Romney.

(2/5/25) reports: "John Curtis, the new Utah senator who made his name in the House by pushing conservatives to acknowledge climate change, has a new target: President Donald Trump...Curtis, who was selected to chair an Environment and Public Works subcommittee last week, thinks he could do with Trump what he did with more than the 80 House Republicans he corralled to his Conservative Climate Caucus, which he launched in 2021 with the goal of educating the GOP on climate policies in a space that embraces conservative, free market principles...Curtis told Axios he has already made a 'connection' with Sens. Susan Collins (R-Maine) and Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) — both of whom have displayed a willingness to defy Trump...Curtis, a former Democrat, said he had a particularly good conversation with Trump’s health department pick Robert F. Kennedy Jr. about regenerative agriculture — which could remove greenhouse gas emissions from the atmosphere."
No, that's something else.

(2/7/25) reports: "Nikola, the much-hyped hydrogen-truck maker that was briefly valued more than Ford Motor, is nearing a bankruptcy filing, according to people familiar with the matter. Phoenix-based Nikola has been working with its law firm Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman to explore options that could include a sale or restructuring of the company in bankruptcy, the people said. A representative for Nikola said the company continues to assess its financial position and liquidity needs, and is evaluating a number of options including financing as part of a financial restructuring. Nikola went public in 2020 when it hadn’t sold a single truck before its founder was convicted of securities fraud in 2022 for misleading investors about its zero-emissions technology."
