1) Patrick Mahomes For President
We don't have a horse in the big game on Sunday, but we were highly impressed with how Chiefs quarterback, Patrick Mahomes (the third most famous person in the country behind Donald Trump and Taylor Swift), handled gotcha questions from the media yesterday regarding Trump attending the Super Bowl.
He skillfully eluded any controversy with the same kind of savvy he shows on the field when he eludes blitzing 240-pound linebackers, by saying: "It's always cool to be able to play in front of a sitting president - someone that is at the top position in our country."
When asked about Trump's praise that Mahomes is a "good winner,” the QB diplomatically responded: "It's cool to hear that he's seen me play football and respects the game that I play."
During the presidential race he was asked what he thought of Trump: "I don't want my place and my platform to be used to endorse a candidate or do whatever, either way. My place is to inform people to get registered to vote. It's to inform people to do their own research and then make the best decision for them and their family."
"I've grown up with people from every aspect of life and every background. I think the best thing about a football locker room...is people can come together and achieve something and achieve a common goal. If we can do that as a nation, I think we can get the best out of each other. I think that's something that I do every single day."
You don't have to be a Chiefs fan to love this guy.

2) New UP Poll: 38% of Federal Spending Is Wasted
We asked pollster John McLaughlin to pose this question in his latest 1,000-person poll.
How much of the federal budget is wasted?
The chart below shows that the mean answer was 38 cents of every dollar spent by Uncle Sam is wasted:
This means that on average, Americans think we could eliminate about $2.5 trillion in wasteful spending. And Elon is proving to be the perfect efficiency czar to find it.
In the poll we sponsored, we also found that almost 2-in-3 voters say the federal government is too wasteful and inefficient, compared to 1-in-4 who say the government does a better job than people give it credit for: 64% - 25%.

3) Trump and Elon to Cut 97% of USAID Staff
It's hard to think of a better first target for President Trump and his efficiency czar Elon Musk, than the US Agency for International Development. It’s a vast slush fund for every left-wing cause around the world and an agency that despite spending tens of billions of dollars, has had zero impact on documented economic "development."

Now this is efficiency.

4) The Phantom Green Energy Transition
Speaking of wasting money, we've made this point many times before, but here's the latest evidence that the Biden "Green New Deal" had virtually zero impact on energy use in America or around the world.
On a global basis, fossil fuels still account for over 80% of all energy, a number that has barely budged in recent decades. As this chart from Bjorn Lomborg shows, if the trend since 2010 (black line) continues, zero will be achieved in the year 2401. On the trendline from 1970 (yellow line), it will take until the year 2905. Zero fossil fuels by 2050 - the red line - is a pure fantasy.
In other words, in 900 years the planet will be healed. Now we can sleep well at night.

5) The Odd Couple of Price Controls
The new Felix Unger and Oscar Madison of politics odd-couple is Vermont socialist Senator Bernie Sanders and Missouri GOP Senator Josh Hawley. They've just teamed up on a bill to cap annual credit-card interest rates at 10%.
[link removed]
Hawley calls current rates "exploitive" and accused card issuers of "hiking their interest rates to the moon."
This comes from a Senator who labeled Kamala Harris's economic plan "Soviet price controls" and denounced them as "excruciatingly bad."
However, capping credit card interest is nothing less than a price control and will result in less consumer credit being offered - especially to younger and poorer Americans.
As for the "lack of competition" argument, there are more than 640 individual credit card products and nearly 4,000 banks today, all competing in the buy-now-pay-later space. The average American household carries 3.9 credit cards, and many consumers opt for upstart competitors that offer lower rates. The smartest pay off their balances - only half of American households with credit cards don't.
Ironically, a huge booster of the Hawley-Sanders price control bill is Teamsters President Sean O'Brien who says: "You've got a lot of our members, our constituents, who are paying 28, 29% on credit cards that they'll never be able to pay off."
Ahem, O'Brien is complaining about high rates while his union's exclusive co-branded credit card has a rate of over 27%.

We hope to see Josh Hawley to back off this bad bill.
