The Censors Have Plans But We Have Solutions

Oklahoma Senator Dusty Deevers recently introduced a bill to criminalize the production, distribution, and possession of porn, signaling an escalation in the long-running effort to censor adult content. While extreme, this bill is just one of many across the country, including federal proposals that could dismantle industry protections, state laws targeting adult platforms, and age-verification mandates that drive consumers to pirate sites.

FSC is leading the charge for a better solution: *device-based age verification.* Instead of forcing consumers to hand over personal data, this approach allows devices to verify a user’s age and signal websites accordingly. Supported by a broad coalition, including Meta and legal experts, this method protects minors *without* compromising adult privacy or business viability.

We know anti-porn activists have a plan—but we have real solutions. Read more on our blog. ( [link removed] )

FSC Supports North Dakota Age-Verification Bill

A new North Dakota bill, SB 2380, introduces a privacy-focused, device-based age-verification system for adult websites. Unlike existing laws, it shifts responsibility to device manufacturers and operating systems to verify the user’s age and signal websites accordingly. This approach prevents minors from accessing adult content without exposing adult users’ identities or browsing habits. ( [link removed] ) Read more on our blog. ( [link removed] )

The Florida Government Is Standing In The Way Of My Preferred Way To Masturbate

“What you can do now is support the Free Speech Coalition ( [link removed] ) , which has been working to fight these age verification laws for quite some time. Their general stance, across the two decades I’ve known of them and across multiple leadership changes, is that free speech in pornography is the xxxxxx against censorship—the freedom to depict sex is what protects the freedom to talk about sex, freedom to educate about sex, and freedoms of speech that have nothing to do with sex. They’ve already filed lawsuits challenging the constitutionality of age verification laws ( [link removed] ) in several states, including Florida.” Read more on Slate. ( [link removed] )

Republicans Advance Strict Online Porn Age Verification Bill Amid Privacy Concerns

Arizona lawmakers are advancing HB 2112, a Republican-backed age-verification bill requiring users to submit government IDs or private data to access adult content—despite concerns over privacy and effectiveness. “We are seeing a game of Whac-a-Mole,” said FSC’s Mike Stabile, noting that similar laws in other states have only driven traffic to illegal offshore sites that often host harmful content. FSC continues to advocate for device-based age verification, a solution backed by child safety organizations that protects minors without compromising adult privacy. Read more on AZ Mirror. Bill To Keep Kids Away From Internet Porn Raises Privacy Concerns

New Mexico lawmakers delayed a vote on HB 44, which would require age verification through ID scans, credit cards, or facial recognition to access adult content, citing privacy and censorship concerns. Critics, including the ACLU, warned the bill is overly broad, risks exposing personal data, and could block access for law-abiding adults. Read more on Santa Fe New Mexican ( [link removed] ).

Ofcom Drops OnlyFans Probe Into Underage User Access

Ofcom has dropped its investigation into whether OnlyFans adequately prevents underage users from accessing adult content but is continuing to examine whether the platform provided complete and accurate information. OnlyFans attributed past reporting issues to a “coding configuration error” and reaffirmed its use of the government-approved age verification provider Yoti, which sets the age threshold at 20. While Ofcom has not made any findings, it reserves the right to reopen the investigation if new information emerges. Read more on Daily Mail. ( [link removed] )

The First 'Approved' iPhone Porn App Is Coming To Europe

The first “Apple-approved” porn app, Hot Tub, is launching in Europe via the alternative iOS marketplace AltStore PAL, following Apple’s notarization process for fraud and security threats. While Apple insists it does not approve of the app and is only allowing it due to EU regulations, AltStore PAL sees this as a win for digital freedom. To mark the launch, AltStore PAL is donating its February Patreon earnings to organizations supporting sex workers and the LGBTQ+ community, citing ongoing harmful policies from tech companies and politicians.
