Hi John,
The UK is one step closer to stopping drilling for new oil and gas. Let’s end it for good.
You probably heard last week about the fantastic victory in the court case brought by Uplift and Greenpeace against the oil and gas companies Shell, Equinor and Ithaca. All three were given licenses to develop the Rosebank and Jackdaw oil and gas fields off the coast of Scotland.
The court ruled that consent to drill Rosebank and Jackdaw was approved unlawfully. This was a huge victory for the climate and for a liveable future for us all.
If those companies still want to go ahead, then they’ll have to make new applications which the UK government will need to look at afresh. Only this time they’ll need to take into account the emissions caused by the burning of the oil and gas, not just the local effects of the drilling.
We are on the brink of stopping new oil and gas drilling here for good. So, now is the time to make sure that the UK Government hears loud and clear from all of us that there can be no new oil and gas fields if we are to have any chance of a safe climate.
Will you join the week of action from 3–9 March? ([link removed])
Many organisations in the climate movement are coming together for a week of action to stop new fossil fuels. During that week we will be lobbying our local MPs across the whole of the UK, and MSPs in Scotland, to support the call to stop new oil and gas. If we create enough pressure, we could see the UK take the decisive leap of moving away from fossil fuels.
📅 When: 3 – 9 March 2025
❓ What: visit, write to, email your MP and/or MSPs
📍 Where: across the UK

We need to make sure that every MP and MSP hears from their constituents that for a safe climate and affordable energy we must stop new oil and gas now.
This is also a chance to let them know that stopping new oil and gas doesn’t end in UK waters. That a Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty is urgently needed to create a global roadmap for ending fossil fuels everywhere, and to plan a clean energy future that leaves no worker, community or country behind.
There will be lots of resources available, including briefings and an online meeting in mid February to get tips on how to approach your MP or MSP. You’ll be given everything you need to help you.

Thanks for everything you do.
Best wishes,
