Friend,
I want to take a moment to address the death of George Floyd.
Like anyone who watched the video, Iām disturbed and angered by what I saw. The horrific response by the police officers involved was completely unwarranted and inexcusable. George was fighting for his life and his pleas for help were gut-wrenching.
This is just the latest reminder of the deep-seated, institutionalized racism in America.
These cops not only broke the public trust (again) ā they shattered it. George was murdered because of the color of his skin. Most people go into law enforcement because they want to protect and serve their communities, but others seem to because they want a license to bully. Unfortunately, these cops proved to be the latter. We need systemic change to end the long-standing practice by so many of the bad cops in this country to harass, beat, and kill black men with little regard for the value of their life.
George is just one of way too many stories of people being killed by police for the crime of being Black. The racial profiling and discrimination must end. Justice must be served for George and his family. And the officers involved must be held accountable.
Every person deserves to feel safe in their community. George was stripped of that right ā and we must do everything we can to ensure that does not happen again. We, as a country, must finally say enough is enough.
