Given Facebook's history of suppressing dissent, it was a huge surprise when Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook and Meta recently outed the Biden administration for demanding his platform censor opposing viewpoints. Appearing on Joe Rogan's podcast, Zuckerberg said: |
"These people from the Biden administration would call up our team and, like, scream at them and curse… Basically, it just got to this point where we were like, no, we're not going to take down things that are true… We just said, no, we're not going to take down humor and satire." | Given what Mark Zuckerberg shared with Joe Rogan, it seems it was common practice for Biden's team to call up social media companies and demand they remove content the administration didn't like. We certainly didn't buy ourselves any favors with headlines including, "Joe Biden found in dumpster behind DNC Convention Center" and "Joe Biden praised for historic rescue efforts to save kid he pushed down a well." But, this is America, we value freedom, and we aren't going to apologize for writing satire. Sorry, not sorry, Joe. Even with Biden out the door, Trump in the White House, X leading Big Tech in its allegiance to free speech, and Facebook making strides to curb its suppression of thought … the censorship machine hasn't dissolved.
