A CLOSER LOOK—Nonprofit Hospitals

A new JAMA study examines aggressive tactics that some hospitals are taking over unpaid bills, including suing patients. Out of the hospitals surveyed, a large number of those that garnish wages are nonprofit hospitals. A Health Affairs study from 2016 found that seven of the top ten most profitable hospitals were nonprofit.
