John,
Black History Month is about celebrating the beauty, creativity, innovation, resilience, and endless contributions of Black people. And while we are proud to honor our past and inspire our future, we also recognize that our history and progress are under attack.
Donald Trump, Elon Musk, and others in the highest levels of our government are actively working to erase our stories by banning books, whitewashing slavery, and pretending the Civil Rights Movement wasn’t met with brutal violence. They want to rewrite history to protect their power — but we won’t let them.
That’s why, this month, Politivist Action PAC is honoring some of our nation’s greatest Black leaders and champions, people who fought for justice and changed the course of history.
Today, we honor Donna Jean Barksdale , who, at just 11 years old in 1955, became one of the first Black students to integrate an all-white school in Arkansas.

Think about that. It’s only been 70 years since Black children were first allowed to even sit in the same classroom as white children. Never let anyone tell you Black history doesn’t matter.
And yet, here we are in 2024 — watching Donald Trump and his cronies try to erase history right in front of our eyes. Banning Black authors. Dismissing the reality of systemic racism. Trying to drag us backward.
But, John: Black history is American history. And no matter how hard they try, they can’t erase us. They can’t silence us. And they most definitely can’t stop us.
This month, let’s honor our ancestors by telling their stories loudly , lifting up the next generation of leaders, and making sure the sacrifices of those who came before us were not in vain.
Who is a Black leader or champion — past or present — who inspires you? Maybe it’s a historic figure or someone close to home. Click here and let us know. We’d love to honor them this month. [[link removed]]
And remember John: History remembers the fighters. Let’s keep fighting.
In solidarity,
Cori Bush
