News from Rep. Chip Roy

Dear Mr. xxxxxx,

I wanted to pass along my latest update on what I have been doing to fight for you, Texas’ 21st Congressional District, and our country as a whole:

Fighting wasteful spending

Advocating for common sense and responsible spending has always been a tenant of my service for the 21st District of Texas. One of the many ways I have been fighting the waste of taxpayer money is by identifying the most egregious ways that the swamp is spending it. I have been working tirelessly to bring into the light these ridiculous programs. In 2022, I published my findings on these programs and urged my colleagues to join the fight to end this madness.

My compiled list of some of these wasteful programs can be read here.

As I pointed out in the Rules Committee this week, funding from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) contains many such examples of the egregious misspending that has run rampant throughout our federal government.

Take, for example, the $2 MM provided to Guatemala to provide transgender surgeries, $45 MM to Burma to pay for DEI scholarships, and $1.5 MM to Serbia to provide economic empowerment and opportunity to gay and transsexual people. Such absurd spending should not and can not be what becomes of American taxpayer dollars. The Trump administration’s effort in uncovering such wasteful spending is a step in the right direction for our nation, and I applaud it.

Standing up for our veterans

This week, I reaffirmed my support for our nation's veterans.

I reintroduced the Veteran Access to Direct Primary Care Act in the House of Representatives. This bill establishes a pilot program that allows veterans access to primary care (DPC), creating the opportunity for them to enroll in accessible and quality care that prioritizes doctor/patient relationships.

I also reintroduced the Defending Veterans' Second Amendments Rights Act to safeguard our veterans’ 2A rights. Today, veterans fear losing their right to bear arms. When a veteran seeks care for mental health issues at the VA and receives a disability rating for having a mental illness, the Department of Veterans Affairs transfers their personal information to the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System. The Defending Veterans' Second Amendments Rights Act will prohibit this from happening. No veteran should fear losing their rights for simply seeking help, especially since they fought to protect them.

Dismantling the swamp bureaucracy

Instead of advancing the possibilities for our children’s educations and futures, the Department of Education has become a source of endless spending for Washington bureaucrats and administrators across the country. The Department of Education has paved the way for an endless number of administrators and arbitrary vice principals. Before the Department of Education, there was no bureaucracy standing in the way between our children and their education.

The Department of Education is nowhere to be found in the Constitution. It is not an enumerated power. Legislation introduced by US Rep. Thomas Massie (KY-04) aims to terminate the Department of Education on December 31, 2026, and I support this effort.
