John,
I know how overwhelming this moment feels. At every turn, it’s something worse. I don’t want to list the scariest and stupidest (which can also be scary) because you hear enough about the horrors in the news — Trump threatening to seize control of Gaza and push millions of Palestinians out, antagonizing our allies in Mexico and Canada with the dumbest trade war in recent history, even slashing long-standing international aid programs.
All the while, he’s handing Elon Musk the keys to critical federal agencies and threatening payment systems that millions of people rely on.
This is more than cruelty, it’s manufactured chaos. They want to throw us off balance by “flooding the zone” with so much bull that we feel like there’s no way out. But we know better. I’ve seen these tactics before.
I turned 87 last year. I’ve lived through enough to know what’s at stake — and to know what’s possible when we come together. I remember what it was like to be in the vocal minority speaking out against the Vietnam War. I remember how it felt every time I’ve been arrested for civil disobedience.
But I also remember this: When we organize, when we refuse to be silenced or to retreat into isolation, we can change the course of history.
Trump’s return to office and the mainstreaming of MAGA extremism didn’t just come about out of nowhere. Neither will the resistance. We are girding our loins. You can see protestors outside the Treasury and USAID. Democratic members of Congress are stepping up, calling for town hall meetings with constituents. If you’re able, try to show up at town halls called by your electeds.
From protesting, marching, and civil disobedience to electing brave leaders at every level of government who are willing to meet this moment, we’re in this for the long haul, and I’m honored to have you on our side.
You have power. I have power. And together, we can be unstoppable. It won’t be easy, but now is not the time to give in. It’s time to dig in — not just to grieve, but to organize. Not just to be outraged, but to make your voice heard.
The cost of doing nothing has never been higher. So we fight — for each other and for a future that belongs to us, not billionaires and strongmen.
Let’s fight like hell. Make your voice heard. I’m right with you.
— Jane Fonda
