Dear John,
A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to take major steps toward making our streets safer and our transit system more accessible for all Bronxites. I’m excited to share two key announcements that mark real progress in our community:
🚲 Expanding Bike Lanes and Safer Streets in the Bronx
As part of NYC DOT’s latest Vision Zero equity report, we announced new street redesigns and infrastructure upgrades—including protected bike lanes, pedestrian islands, and safer intersections right here in Soundview. These improvements prioritize communities like ours that have historically been left behind in street safety investments. I’ve been proud to advocate for more protected bike lanes in District 18, and this initiative will not only save lives but also create better connections to transit, schools, and small businesses.

♿ New Elevators and Accessibility Upgrades at Westchester Square Station
We also celebrated the completion of three brand-new elevators at the Westchester Sq–East Tremont Av station, making it fully accessible for the first time! This project, made possible with nearly $100 million in federal funding, ensures that seniors, parents with strollers, and New Yorkers with disabilities can access the 6 train safely and reliably. With additional safety upgrades like new stairways, ADA boarding areas, CCTV cameras, and improved lighting, we are delivering a better transit experience for all.

These wins are part of my ongoing fight to ensure the Bronx and NYC gets the infrastructure investments we deserve. I’ll continue working to make our streets safer and our transit system more equitable, and I look forward to sharing more updates with you soon.
