After a Recent Victory, Indigenous Peoples Face Many Legal Battles in Brazil

Among Bolsonaro's most alarming decisions was, in February 2020 an appointment of a missionary, Ricardo Dias Lopes, as the head of the division within FUNAI that is responsible for protecting and monitoring isolated and recently contacted Indigenous Tribes. Following strong pressure the Federal Appellate Court voided the appointment last week.  Read more.

We have produced a prevention manual to support the essential activities of radio stations, including general guidelines for good communication going beyond prevention. This manual contains tools to prevent and protect journalists from possible spread of the virus at radio stations, and promotes the important role of a community engagement agent. Reimagining the Post-Pandemic “Normal”

As we attempt to reimagine our place in Nature in the face of escalating and converging crises, it behooves us to learn from our Indigenous brothers and sisters how to heal the culture-Nature divide. We may learn from the Quechua people protecting traditional varieties of potato in Peru, for example, how to reconcile our relationships with the plants of our world. We might learn how to reconcile our relationship with animals by looking to the Kainai First Nation in Canada who are repatriating buffalo back to their traditional territory. Read more.

We received the news on May 1, 2020, that in an unexpected and beautiful gesture, Barenaked Ladies announced on Twitter that they would share proceeds from their single 'Gotta Be Patient' with Cultural Survival. 'Gotta Be Patient' is a collaboration between Grammy award-winning singer Michael Bublé, Barenaked Ladies, and Warner-Latino Mexican artist Sofia Reyes. While it is important to ensure the well-being of our elders in the time of this global pandemic, let us take care of our children too. If this is new for us, imagine the psychological impact it has on our young ones. Take the time to explain it to them, first hand, as opposed to what they see and hear on social media, television and radio.
