On May 30th, Young Republicans from across the Northeast will be making voter contacts and calls on behalf of fellow Young Republican, Kelly Dooner.

Kelly is running for State Representative and is also the National Committeewoman for the Massachusetts Young Republicans! Shaunna O’Connell, who was the previous State Representative, served the district well and it is imperative that we keep this seat in Republican hands. Let's come together and show what the DCYRs can do!

DC Mayor Muriel Bowser Lifts Stay at Home Restrictions

On Wednesday, May 27th, Mayor Muriel Bowser (D) announced Washington, DC will lift its stay-at-home order on Friday, May 29th and begin to enter the first phase of reopening the city.

Under this order, nonessential retail businesses can open for curbside pickup and hair salons can open for appointments only. Restaurants can serve diners outdoors if they already have outdoor seating and tables are 6 feet apart.
Gatherings of more than 10 people are still banned, and the Mayor encouraged people to continue staying 6 feet apart, wearing masks when around others and washing hands frequently.

COVID-19 is still a real threat to public health in our region. We want to remind our members that the Young Republican National Federation has not altered it's previous decision to suspend in-person events or meetings. Therefore, we will not be holding a membership meeting in June. We value the health and safety of all our members and encourage everyone to continue using precautions and not do anything that would compromise your safety.

Election Season is Here!

Meet your June 2nd DC Republican Primary & June 16th Ward 2 Special Election Candidates:

The District of Columbia will be holding primary contests for all major political parties, including the Republican Primary, on Tuesday, June 2nd. If you are registered Republican voter, you are eligible to vote in the primary. In addition to party leadership and ward chairs, the DC Republican Party currently has three phenomenal candidates for city council in very competitive races.

If you were late to make the absentee ballot request deadline, fear not! There are twenty in-person polling places across the city where you can cast your vote in the primary. To find out which polling places are closest to you for early voting, CLICK HERE!

As we move forward into the heart of election season, get to know a little bit about each candidate!

Marya Pickering

Marya is an immigrant whose family fled the horrors of communism in post-war Poland to begin a new life of freedom in the United States. Marya worked her way through college and graduate school at a variety of jobs: waitress, church organist, factory laborer, nurses’ aide, clerical staff, and paralegal assistant.

She has decades of extensive experience in government and industry, including startup of small companies, service in Government agencies, and Fortune 500 companies. Marya is a champion for small business, and understands the unique challenges facing the small business community.

An avid student of history, Marya recently translated her late Uncle's account of his World War I service with the Second Carpathian Brigade. She is graduate of Emmanuel College in Boston and Boston University’s Questrom School of Business.

Nate Derenge has lived in Anacostia for about 5 years, and he would like to serve Ward 8 as a DC Councilmember.

He became a resident of Ward 8 because my friend decided to direct a legal aide ministry and join a church plant in the neighborhood five years ago. He invited him on his journey, and quickly grew fond of Southeast Washington, DC.

Policies that the council generates should encourage legal employment and discourage poverty-friendly services like DC Lottery. Kids need some attention before they get on the wrong side of the judicial system; licensure requirements are prohibitive for some trades; and politicians need to open up businesses, which will probably still be an issue by November.

Are you a registered Republican interested in running for office in the District of Columbia?The DC Republican Party is encouraging GOP candidates to run in the 2020 elections. While general election day is November 3, 2020, much preparation is needed to make a successful run for an ANC seat. You need to start to plan your run as early as possible.
