Fighting for wildlife and forests at CITES

This is a big year for the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES), with the 78th meeting of the Standing Committee (SC78) taking place in Geneva this week. EIA is actively engaging at the meeting on a range of key issues relating to the protection of elephants, rhinos, Asian big cats, pangolins, vaquita porpoises and trees, in addition to broader compliance and enforcement issues. UK Ivory Act now protecting more species!

The UK Ivory Act now protects species other than elephants. EIA Executive Director Mary Rice welcomed the move, stating she was delighted to see the Act expanded to include hippos and three whale species, whose ivory is often found in illegal trade.
