PRESERVING AFFORDABLE HOUSING | The preservation of existing income-restricted affordable housing is critical for San Diego to sustain itself as a livable city. I thank the San Diego Housing Commission for developing a strategy to increase the likelihood that such housing can remain truly affordable for years to come. This will prevent current tenants from losing their homes and ensure we have affordable options for the next generation. | The City’s updated Street Design Manual is now available for public review, and we want your input. The updates to the manual shifts to a Complete Streets approach, making all mobility options—driving, walking, or biking—safer. | Team LaCava joined the Regional Task Force on Homelessness and Shoreline Community Services in Pacific Beach for the annual Point-In-Time Count. We engaged with unhoused San Diegans, listened to their stories, and gained insights on how we can better support them. This exercise is critical for understanding how many individuals and families live on our streets and open spaces. In turn, this will help us pursue critical funding for interim shelters and services. These interactions reaffirm my push for stronger prevention, expanding interim shelters, better access to resources, and new approaches to delivering truly affordable housing. | Photos from left to right: North Shore Girls Softball League, Sierra Club Environment Forum, Love Your Wetlands Day (PC: Paola Delgado, WMFO), La Jolla Symphony & Chorus. | Team LaCava hit all corners of the district this past week with events ranging from Love Your Wetlands Day at Kendall-Frost Marsh, the opening day of North Shore Girls Softball League in Carmel Valley, 70 years of music celebration at the La Jolla Symphony & Chorus, and a forum hosted by the Sierra Club of San Diego on the preservation of our environment at the Pacific Beach/Taylor Library. District 1 is full of celebration, nature, community action, and learning. I am grateful for every opportunity to celebrate, uplift, and honor the hard-working residents and organizations in our neighborhoods. | D1 INFRASTRUCTURE SPOTLIGHT | More than just a pothole, a stretch of broken asphalt on Pacific Beach's Mission Boulevard was stabilized and patched by the City’s in-house mill and pave teams. Submit potholes or needed street and sidewalk repairs via the Get it Done App. Contact us if you aren’t satisfied with the city’s response.
