Trump’s attacks on our independent media and basic right to freedom of speech are growing by the day. But we will not be silent. We must dissent!
Bernie is sounding the alarm as Trump doubles down, coming after one news outlet after the next when he doesn’t like their coverage. First it was ABC, which settled a defamation case Trump brought for a shocking $16 million. Then he began taking clear steps to gut PBS and NPR. And now he’s in settlement talks with CBS after suing when he didn’t like how 60 Minutes edited an interview with Kamala Harris.
It’s not hard to see what’s happening here and it's straight out of an authoritarian playbook: Trump is coming after the First Amendment.
If Trump can silence anyone who dares to report the truth, he’ll be free to spread all the lies and disinformation he likes. All while making billions pushing the platforms he and his tech oligarch cronies own.

Trump’s hold on the media was already chilling enough. During the election, we saw billionaire owners of The Washington Post and Los Angeles Times halt opinion pieces that were critical of Trump or supportive of Harris.
But now he’s tightening his grip even more. Last week, Fox News refused to air an ad from a Democratic group criticizing Trump’s federal spending freeze (Trump had already lodged complaints about Fox running Harris ads during the election). The FCC launched formal ‘investigations’ into NPR and PBS after Trump and Musk accused the public media stations of “biased” coverage and “propaganda.” Then Musk tweeted this:
It’s a chilling and blatant attack on our free media. It’s not hard to imagine what could be next – like an editorial ‘takeover’ of PBS or NPR to make these the mouth-pieces of the administration.
But here’s the thing – to do things like defund our public media, Republicans will need almost UNANIMOUS support in Congress. So we’re going to raise the temperature to make sure they’re ALL hearing from thousands of constituents concerned about these attacks on the media and our freedom of speech.
If we can raise enough, we can make this huge – unleashing powerful demonstrations and stunts in front of the Capitol and in key districts to get the media’s attention. Will you chip in to make it happen?
