In a moment I'm going to ask you to split a donation — of any amount — to support the campaigns of three seats Democrats need to hold come November. But first, I hope you'll give me a chance to explain why this request is so important right now.

If we want to defeat Donald Trump and take back the Senate, we have to play both offense and defense. That means doing everything we can in battleground states while also holding on to critical seats, like Senator Tina Smith's in Minnesota and Senator Jeanne Shaheen's in New Hampshire.

Both of these seats are vulnerable. Trump lost Minnesota by just 1.5 points in 2016 and is hell-bent on claiming victory there this year — pledging to dump millions of dollars into the state and already making over one million voter contacts.

And there's no taking back the Senate if we lose in New Hampshire. National Republicans have made it clear that they know this by pouring money into right-wing ads against Senator Shaheen for months. There's sure to be more outside spending in the months ahead.

All three of our campaigns are nearing a critical end-of-month deadline in just a few days, so I'm asking: Will you split a donation of any amount today between Tina Smith in Minnesota, Jeanne Shaheen in New Hampshire, and my campaign?
