Dear John,

Ranked choice voting(RCV)gives millions of American voters more choices and
ensures that our elected officials actually need majority support to win.

But what do voters who use RCV think of it? Across blue, red, and purple states,
the results – and reviews – are in. Last week, we released surveys from Utah and
the California Bay Area that add to a growing body of evidence: Everywhere it’s
used, voters like and understandranked choice voting.

InUtah, where about a dozen cities use ranked choice voting:

* 94% are satisfied,
* 82% say it’s easy to rank candidates, and
* 67% say they’re more likely to vote for their favorite candidate in an RCV
election.

In theCalifornia Bay Area, where major cities like San Francisco and Oakland use
RCV:

* 92% say they understand RCV well, and
* 70% say they want to keep ranked choice voting – or even expand it to more
elections.

These new reports come on top of 2024 surveys from Alaska, Maine, and Portland,
Oregon that show majorities understand and like the reform.84% of Alaskanssay
ranking candidates was simple.82% of Maine voterssay the same, and 57% like the
ability to rank candidates. In Portland,91% of votersunderstand ranked choice
voting.
