Transforming Indigenous Preschool Mathematics Through Bilingual Learning and Cultural Integration in Panama

Panama’s Ministry of Education is scaling the JADENKÄ program with local indigenous populations after successful impact evaluation results with Ngäbe preschoolers. JADENKÄ uses bilingual audio lessons, featuring Ngäbe actors and singers, to teach mathematics through songs, stories, and examples from community life, farming, and art. The program boosted math skills, cultural engagement and understanding, and positive classroom experiences. JADENKÄ received the prestigious Khalifa International Early Learning Award

The Lab has helped integrate evidence into the design and evaluation of impactful, scalable programs that address emotional well-being and violence prevention, and strengthen community support for expectant parents and migrant families. The Lab is also catalyzing a cultural transformation within ICBF, embedding evidence use, learning, and innovation to strengthen policymaking and program delivery to promote children's development.
