Earlier this week, Assembly Democrats passed their so-called
"Trump-Proof" legislation—spending $25
million in taxpayer dollars on lawyers to help criminal illegal
immigrants fight deportation and another $25 million
to wage legal warfare against the newly elected president.
All while Democrats simultaneously beg for his assistance
with wildfire recovery.
Immediately after these bills passed, I joined Senate Republicans
in urging Governor Newsom to VETO
these insane bills. This slush fund isn’t about solving
real problems—it’s a political stunt meant to
distract from the urgent issues our state faces, and it won’t help
fire victims one bit.
The very next day, Newsom
flew to D.C. to beg the Trump Administration for federal wildfire
aid. But unlike his usual press-seeking self, he dodged reporters
after his meeting, issuing only a vague statement about talking to
Trump—without any clear commitment on when or if aid will
materialize.
Maybe if Democrats weren’t waging a legal war against
Trump, these discussions would go a lot smoother. Instead of
playing politics, Newsom should VETO these "Trump-Proof"
bills as a good-faith effort to work with our new federal
partners and actually deliver for Californians.
We’re fighting to end Democrats’ ridiculous war with Trump
and focus on California. That starts with Newsom’s veto. Can

and hold Sacramento Democrats accountable for putting politics over
wildfire recovery?? Time is running out—Newsom could sign the
bills at any moment and our message must reach him before he does.
