"People are scared": Minnesota Rep. Leigh Finke speaks out amid rollback of transgender protections
[[link removed]]
President Trump is marching forward with his plan to remake the federal government at what seems like a record pace. Following through with his campaign promise, Trump is rewriting regulations for transgender men and women.
It's an issue he campaigned on and drew cheers for at his rallies. It was featured in commercials and is widely seen as one of the reasons he won the election.
Minnesota DFL state Rep. Leigh Finke has appeared on CNN, becoming one of the nation's most visible and outspoken transgender leaders.
"Trans people knew that if Donald Trump was elected he was going to do the things that he said he was going to do to our community and we are seeing that attempt unfold. It's devastating," said Finke.

Trump directs federal government to restrict access to gender-affirming care for youth
[[link removed]]
Hospitals, clinics and medical schools that provide gender-affirming care to transgender youth are at risk of losing federal funding if they continue providing that care, according to a new executive order signed by President Donald Trump on Tuesday. The order would, if enacted as such, force those hospitals and clinics to choose between staying open or providing specialized care to a small number of patients — and could essentially impose a nationwide ban for youth care.
The order is likely to be quickly challenged in court. Like most executive orders, it lays out rule-making that federal agencies need to undertake within 30 to 60 days, meaning that it does not go into immediate effect. However, LGBTQ+ advocates are worried that any federal policy attempting to restrict gender-affirming care will cause a chilling effect among providers, causing people to lose care anyway.
Trump’s order also directs the federal government to rescind protections for trans minors who receive gender-affirming care, including reviewing Medicaid benefits and insurance covered through Tricare, which is administered through the Department of Defense. And the order directs the Federal Health Employee Benefits Plan, which covers over 8 million people, to drop coverage of gender-affirming care for trans youth. It specifically targets puberty blockers and gender-affirming surgeries.

‘Using the devil’s own tools against them’: Abortion opponents turn to environmental laws
[[link removed]]
A cadre of red and purple states is introducing bills this week to impose restrictions on abortion pills over claims that the drugs could be contaminating drinking water.
The new legislation in Arizona, Idaho, Maine, West Virginia and Wyoming — which would require doctors who prescribe abortion pills to make their patients collect and return their expelled fetuses in medical waste bags for disposal — is the latest development in anti-abortion groups’ yearslong campaign to wield environmental laws to cut off access to the drugs.
The group leading the push, Students for Life of America, is also preparing lawsuits, federal bills and a pressure campaign aimed squarely at the environmental inclinations of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who could soon lead the health agencies that regulate access to the pills.
