John, the Trump administration is attacking our government from the inside out to enact their MAGA agenda.

One of the latest targets: the U.S. Census Bureau.

Since late last week, the bureau has experienced significant setbacks that hurt its ability to operate effectively as a nonpartisan statistical agency. And that hurts our ability to have a fair count in the census that leads to fair maps.

First, Census Bureau Director Robert Santos, the renowned data expert who has led the Census Bureau for years, abruptly announced his resignation, which paves the path for Trump to appoint a right-wing, partisan replacement.

Next, the bureau’s website started going dark for periods of time. The New York Times reported that “more than 3,000 pages from the Census Bureau, the vast majority of which are articles filed under research and methodology,” were affected. Other missing pages include data stewardship policies and documentation for several data sets and surveys.”

It’s an ambush in broad daylight, and these attacks only strengthen and demonstrate the power of the Trump administration to undermine and politicize the agency.

Trump and his allies are counting on us being too distracted by all of their other attacks on our democracy to notice what they’re doing here. It's absolutely critical that we show them that we're paying attention and that our nationwide grassroots movement is powerful.

The NDRC is doing everything possible to defeat these radical attacks on the census and our democracy. We’re asking you to rush a $30 donation to the NDRC to help power our democracy-saving work. [[link removed]]

These attacks are all ripped straight out of the Project 2025 playbook, which calls for installing hyper-partisan officials to decide who gets counted and who doesn't.

Here's why that could be devastating: The question of who gets counted plays a critical role in how state legislative and congressional maps get drawn, and how the federal budget is allocated. That's why honest, statistically-minded officials have always been in charge of the rules.

What Trump's Project 2025 is trying to do is reshape our country by dramatically altering the census — whether it be for redistricting, or simply allocating funds from the government.

This movement successfully protected the census during Trump’s first term — and we know that with you by our side, we can protect our democracy once again.

So please, rush a $30 donation to the NDRC today to power our democracy-saving work nationwide. [[link removed]]

We really can’t overstate how important this is — and how much we need your help right now.
