Dear Democrats,
We haven’t really asked for money over email since the election. The moment after Trump’s victory was one of reflection. We were all hurting, and the last thing you needed from the Democratic Party of New Mexico was a kitschy email asking you to rush a donation. Instead, we focused our communications on one key question: How do we stop repeating the same mistakes?
Now, let’s talk about where those mistakes got us—the backdrop we are living in:
-
Our justice system and the FBI are being dismantled—not for reform, but for revenge.
- Unqualified, incompetent people—who wouldn’t be fit to run a circus—are leading our top government agencies.
-
The Republican Party is working to eliminate USAID for good—erasing America’s global leadership while starving children go hungry and 70,000 young women are put at higher risk of contracting HIV.
-
Trump just told 2.23 million Palestinians in Gaza that they will be removed to make way for a dystopian Riviera.
- 11 million undocumented people in the U.S.—many who work our fields, clean our homes, and contribute 2–3% of our GDP—are at risk of mass deportations. Our economy would shrink by $400–$600 billion, according to the Center for American Progress.
-
Elon Musk, the wealthiest man ever, now has access to your grandmother’s Social Security information—and he’s eyeing her already stretched checks to cut "greed and waste." According to Bloomberg, Musk began 2024 with $229 billion and ended it, post-Trump’s election, with $442 billion.
This list could go on, but the summary is clear: The Republican Party has one goal—create a system for the ultra-wealthy that extracts every penny from every working family in every corner of the country.
That’s the backdrop.
We also have to acknowledge this: The Democratic Party has made mistakes that got us here. We’ve heard from countless New Mexicans—through conversations and our survey (click here to take it if you haven’t)—that everything from our messaging to our lack of bold vision has contributed to where we are today.
We hear you. It’s time to correct those mistakes. It’s time to stop talking without action. And most importantly—it’s time to take the damn gloves off.
That’s why we’re launching a new program to:
✅ Organize in every community we’re losing.
✅ Refocus our communications on the people impacted by both good and bad policies—not just politicians.
✅ Engage communities to help shape policies, not just react to them.
This is a bold way forward, and we need your support to make it happen. I know it can feel like throwing coins down a well sometimes, but it will take resources to fight in the places we need to win back.
