City of Chicago & Bally's Casino Sued by WILL

Representing the American Alliance for Equal Rights (AAER), WILL filed a new lawsuit against the City of Chicago, the Illinois Gaming Board, and Bally’s Chicago Casino for an investment offering open only for “people of color” and “women.”

Bally’s Chicago, Inc., a new corporate entity, has advertised an initial public offering to raise $250 million, but the investment opportunity is only open to “minorities,” identified elsewhere as “people of color” and “women.” These investors will own 25% of the financial interest of the casino development.

WILL Deputy Counsel, Dan Lennington, stated, “With the Trump Administration’s new direction on racial equality at the federal level, the focus will now shift to states, local governments, and private companies that persist in unlawful discrimination. We will not stop until DEI, affirmative action, and other forms of racial discrimination are eliminated everywhere.”

WILL Files Suit Against the WIAA

WILL sued the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) and the Baraboo School District for wrongfully preventing a student from participating in school sponsored and funded athletic co-curricular programming.

The WIAA determined our client's daughter was ineligible for one year due to its subjective “transfer rules” and denied a request to waive those rules. WILL argues the Baraboo School District has unlawfully given control over who may participate in taxpayer-funded co-curricular activities to a purportedly private entity not controlled by any accountable government actor.

Our client, Emily Weigel, said, “Our daughter is not gaming the system. She simply wants to participate in high school sports and is making the best of her family’s involuntary decision to switch schools. The WIAA has gone too far, and we are fighting back on her behalf and the many other students who have been subject to the arbitrary decision-making of this organization.”

WILL Recognizes School Choice Week

From January 26, 2025, to February 1, 2025, WILL celebrated School Choice Week by explaining the important role choice schools play in our state.

Here's a recap of what we did:

WILL released a new report titled, The High Cost of Overregulation: How Excessive Government Control Threatens School Choice in Wisconsin.

The report analyzes how burdensome regulations hinder the ability of choice schools to open and expand in Wisconsin. WILL aims for this report to serve as a critical warning to policymakers in Wisconsin and across the nation that overregulating these institutions limits opportunities for families seeking alternatives to traditional public schools.

WILL also refuted the Wisconsin DPI's flawed counting method for disabled students in the state's choice program.

WILL Reacts to "Nation's Report Card"

The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) is a nationally representative sample of schools throughout the country that allows for an apples-to-apples comparison of students in each state, and some cities.

Last week the 2024 NAEP results were released. This is often referred to as the "Nation's Report Card." Not surprisingly, they paint a dim picture of student performance since the pandemic, both in Wisconsin and across the nation.

WILL breaks it all down for you in our newest analysis.

Update: Trump's Progress Restoring True Equality (so far)

Earlier this year, WILL provided a roadmap to dismantle the unconstitutional "DEI & Equity Agenda" within the federal government and we have been tracking the Trump Administration's progress in this area.

Since President Trump took office on January 21st, we can roughly project 18% of the goal WILL outlined for this administration has been achieved with multiple programs already ended and many others to follow.
