Demand Children's Hospital Los Angeles Stop Denying Life-saving Healthcare for Trans Youth!

Dear John,
Last week Donald Trump signed an executive order attempting to ban gender affirming care for anyone under 19, threatening to withhold federal funds to any hospitals that provide such services. This is a blatantly illegal power grab--the President has no such authority to withhold funds--but nevertheless Children’s Hospital Los Angeles has already begun withholding life-saving healthcare for trans children by pausing initiating hormonal therapy for gender affirming patients under 19. They are currently one of the few hospitals in the country choosing to withhold live-saving healthcare for trans children. It is an outrage that CHLA’s leadership is failing to stand up for some of its most vulnerable patients. Can you join us for an emergency rally TOMORROW at 5:30pm to demand CHLA’s this decision?

This policy makes Children’s Hospital LA directly complicit not just in the Trump administration’s dangerous assault on trans people, but also in its attacks on all of our bodily autonomy, our healthcare system, and our human rights. In case the executives of Children's Hospital Los Angeles need a reminder: executive actions do not have the authority to override the U.S. Constitution, federal statutes, and established legal precedent. Donald Trump wants to divide and weaken us by going after our marginalized and vulnerable neighbors, hoping that we’ll go along. That’s how he thinks he can gain power. We need to defend our rights to make sure they are not taken away. We need you with us.
|
In the meantime, please send a letter to Children’s Hospital LA CEO Paul S. Viviano and CHLA executive leadership demanding that he refuse to comply with Trump’s illegal executive order. Here in Los Angeles, trans patients have the same discrimination protections as every other protected group. An illegal executive order doesn’t change that.

Thank you for your support, we hope to see you tomorrow!
