Yesterday was World Cancer Day, a powerful reminder of the kids throughout the country who are fighting critical illnesses every day. This year, more than 9,600 children under the age of 15 in the United States will be diagnosed with cancer. It’s the most common medical condition among wish kids.
These kids are scared and facing treatments and procedures many of us can’t bear to think about. These kids need to know they have friends in their corner, fighting on their side, believing in their strength.
Now, that friend can be you. Show these kids they aren’t fighting alone. Sign a card of hope and encouragement for kids fighting cancer.
Ben’s life drastically changed just after he turned 2, when he began experiencing unexplained symptoms. What started with random fevers and vomiting led to the discovery of a tumor so large it was pressing against his internal organs.
Ben underwent surgery to remove the tumor and one of his kidneys, followed by five difficult months of chemotherapy.
Through it all, Ben’s wish for a family houseboat adventure gave him something special to look forward to, especially on the hardest days.
“Ben’s eyelashes and hair started to grow back, the pieces of his heart started to mend with the excitement of knowing a wish would be granted.” — Ben’s mom
Because of friends like you, Ben’s houseboat wish helped carry him through his battle with cancer, giving him the courage to keep fighting.
Ben is now cancer-free, making new memories filled with joy. His story shows why World Cancer Day is so important – because every kid fighting cancer deserves to feel like a kid, even in the midst of treatment.
When you sign the card for kids this past World Cancer Day, you will send a message of hope reminding kids like Ben that they are not alone in their fight.
Together, we can bring more smiles, more joy, and more wishes for wish kids—on World Cancer Day and every day.
Wishfully,
