Volts Podcast- Host David Roberts
This podcast started in 2020 and it focuses on Clean Energy and Politics at the federal, state, and local levels. This podcast is very informative and keeps you updated on the latest energy news around the country. This podcast is what I use to understand energy and continue to use it as a helpful resource when researching. All We Can Save
This book by authors Dr. Ayan Elizabeth Johnson and Dr. Kathrine Wilkinson came out in 2020, highlighting women's voices in the environmental spaces through a collection of stories, poems, and essays. This book is inspiring and gives you a diverse perspective of what is happening worldwide. What If We Get It Right?
Another one from Dr Ayana Elizabeth Johnson- this book is a must-read! It came out in 2024 and It focuses on Climate as a whole and talks about the problems we are facing along with the solutions. Dr. Ayana Elizabeth Johnson is someone who opened the doors to policy and organizing work for me and made me realize the value of talking about solutions while discussing problems. This book isn’t specific to energy but still one of my favorite reads.
Energy Gang Podcast - Hosted by Ed Brooks If you are looking for more podcasts to listen to around energy, this is a great one! This podcast started in 2016 and it focuses on energy-related topics. Behind the Bears Ears
Bears Ears National Monument has been pivotal for our organization and communities throughout Utah, and the U.S.. R. E. Burrillo’s book takes readers on a journey of discovery through the stories and controversies that make this place so unique, from traces of its earliest inhabitants through its role in shaping the study of archaeology itself—and into the modern battle over its protection.
Public Trust: The Fight for America’s Public Lands - Patagonia This documentary investigates not only Utah’s complicated relationship to public lands, but much of the U.S.’s fraught history. From Alaska, to Minnesota, to Utah, the fight for public lands spans generations, communities, and more. Watch on youtube here.
Red by Terry Tempest Williams Terry Tempest Williams' book Red is a collection of essay, testimonies, and stories, focusing on the awe-inspiring wilds of America's Red Rock Wilderness. Part love letter the southern Utah, part call to action to protect these places, Red (or really anything by Terry Tempest Williams) is a must read for Utah adovocates. US Supreme Court Declines Utah's Public Lands Case- Your Mountain podcast This podcast is a brief overview of the Supreme Court’s recent decision not to take Utah’s public lands case. City Cast Salt Lake
Looking for your hyperlocal podcast in and around Salt Lake? Look no further than City Cast Salt Lake, hosted by Ali Vallarta. They do a wonderful job of discussing local and state politics that affect residents of Utah, not just for salt lakers. Why I Run by Kate Childs Graham
Are you thinking about running for a local or larger office but need a kick of inspiration? Why I Run by Kate Childs Graham features 35 essays by diverse individuals who have recently pursued political office. Contributors such as Stacey Abrams, Deb Haaland, Jason Kander, Andrea Jenkins, and Michelle Lujan Grisham discuss their motivations for running, the challenges of campaigning, and what they learned from both victories and defeats.
Parks and Recreation I know Democracy Policy Associate Nat WIlliams already mentioned this, but how could I possibly leave out Parks and Rec? One of my favorite shows of all-time, Parks and Recreation might appear to be an over exaggerated look into life of a small town, but I can say that it’s eerily accurate. Breaking Points with Krystal and Saagar
One of my favorite independent news shows – funded entirely by its subscribers and very different from traditional cable news. Krystal Ball and Saagar Enjeti offer a mix of progressive and populist conservative perspectives, covering politics, elections, economics and more. It’s a great watch if you want honest takes (whether you agree with them or not) without corporate or partisan bias. |
That wraps up our suggestions! Let us know if you've read these or think we missed anything. Onwards, |
