I have an announcement to share today, and I wanted you to hear it from me first. This is a long but important email, so I hope you’ll read it to the end.
I was elected to fight for Californians. Every day, that’s what I do — I fight to make a real difference in people’s lives. Californians elected me to fight to protect their safety, their rights, and their futures.
Over the past four years as Attorney General, that’s meant fighting relentlessly to protect Californians from everything from fentanyl to gun violence. To protect their right to reproductive healthcare, and their freedom to marry.
On top of that, over the last four weeks, the work has included fighting for fire victims — relentlessly going after looters, price gougers, and scam “charities” trying to profit off of people’s pain.
And on top of that, in the last few weeks, the fight for Californians has meant fighting Donald Trump’s efforts to shut down everything from Medicaid to Meals on Wheels to birthright citizenship.
So while I was elected to fight for Californians, not to fight Trump, the last few weeks have made clear that fighting for Californians also often means standing up to the Trump administration’s strategy of trying to flood the zone and overwhelm us with a flurry of illegal attempts to harm our people.
I’ve never taken the responsibility of serving as Attorney General lightly — I’m California's people's attorney and the state’s top cop. It’s always been a big job with a huge impact on the daily life of every Californian, but now it’s more important than ever.
To be clear, serving as Attorney General of California is, without question, one of the most impactful jobs in the country right now. I sincerely appreciate the trust of the millions of Californians who elected me to do this important work, and that’s why I’m completely dedicated to doing the job and doing the job well.
Every day we are working intensely to help Californians, and this is no time to take my eye off the ball — the stakes are too high. Now more than ever, Californians deserve and need elected officials who are solely focused on getting the job done, with no distractions or political considerations.
That’s why, while I appreciate all the people and organizations who have urged me to run for Governor, I am staying in the fight and plan on serving as Attorney General for the next 6 years. This work is simply too important and there are too many important fights ahead.
Thank you for all you do to show your support — it is so deeply appreciated. Let’s keep up the good fight, together.
In solidarity,
Rob
