Dear Neighbor,
Greetings from the Capitol, where House Republicans continue doing the people’s work to address the top priorities we share with Minnesotans. This includes visiting with constituents and other numerous groups who have come to St. Paul to talk with me about important issues. Just some of the people I recently saw include:
abate
*American Bikers for Awareness, Training and Education* members shared some valuable information when they visited me in St. Paul. This includes concerns about a new law that takes effect this summer, allowing motorcyclists to share lanes with vehicles. Some say this will make cyclists safer in bumper-to-bumper traffic. Per the new law, cyclists need to stay under 25 miles per hour and not exceed 15 miles per hour faster than the car next to them. On the other hand, the ABATE visitors said a lot of education still needs to happen in coming months to increase understanding among all motorists to keep everyone safe.
Hospital
*Minnesota Hospital Association* representatives visited with me to discuss challenges they face in their industry. Reimbursement rates, staffing and accessibility to care throughout Minnesota were among the main topics we addressed.
townships
*Minnesota Association of Townships* members also stopped by to talk about issues specific to their jurisdiction. I have worked closely with the townships over the years and, as a resident of Greater Minnesota, have an appreciation for the work they do. Road funding is a perennial challenge our townships face and that was a top point of discussion in this week’s meeting.
pages
*High School Page* students always are enjoyable to see at the Capitol. The Minnesota House of Representatives High School Page Program was established in 1975. It provides high school juniors with a unique, challenging educational experience. Applications are usually due in November for week-long slots the following legislative session. Watch for more from the Capitol soon. Until next time, please stay in touch. Let me know if you’re coming to St. Paul and would like to set up a meeting.
Sincerely,
Lisa
