Arise works hard to break down policy barriers to opportunity for people living in or near poverty. We recognize the role that structural racism plays in creating and sustaining these barriers, and we have an organizational commitment to promote racial equity in all that we do. Using policy analysis, advocacy and organizing, Arise provides a structure in which Alabamians can engage in public debates to promote the common good.
The organizer will advance this work by organizing grassroots activity on issues affecting Alabamians living in poverty and working to generate activity among Arise member groups and individual members. The organizer also will build long-term, sustainable relationships and will plan and facilitate a variety of meetings and events, including issue briefings, listening sessions, advocacy trainings and panel presentations.
Alabama Arise Workers United is the union designated to represent Arise workers in collective bargaining agreements. This position is bargaining unit eligible.
The ideal candidate is passionate about ensuring that Alabama’s communities have the resources they need to implement community-based solutions and policies to alleviate poverty and inequity. We’re looking for someone who has strong community relationship building skills, has experience equipping and motivating people to action, and values dignity, justice, opportunity and racial equity.
