Team, we've been crunching the numbers to get you the most accurate vision of California's climate actions in 2024.

Here are our top five takeaways from the 2024 California Environmental Scorecard data:

1. California's state score is on the decline—but we're confident we can rise to the challenge.
The California score decreased over the last three years from 91% in 2022 to 84% in 2024. Although budget cuts and delays to environmental action brought the scores down, California achieved some massive climate wins during these years. This Scorecard is California's Big Call to Action to rise to the challenge and push for bigger, bolder climate progress in 2025.

2. About half of all pro-environmental bills passed this year.
Of the 129 climate bills we tracked in 2024, 64 passed—putting us just under half overall. And of our 10 priority environmental bills, seven passed into law!

3. Out of 120 legislators, 21 got a perfect score in 2024.
Legislators kept an eye on the Scorecard to improve their 2024 grades–and it paid off. We added eight new 100%-ers to our cohort of 21 perfect-score legislators in 2024. Unfortunately, 46 legislators earned failing grades under 70%.

4. 60% of Californians want bigger and better climate funding.
Proposition 4, the largest climate funding initiative in California’s history, passed with 60% of the votes in the November elections. This put a historic $10 billion toward critical investments in water conservation, wildfire resiliency, community protections, and more.

5. Oil money acceptance is down to 51%.
This is a 29% decrease since 2021, the first year we started tracking oil money. In 2024, 100% of Republicans and 37% of Democrats accepted oil money.
