Friend,
Today is National Girls and Women in Sports Day – a day to recognize the incredible achievements and contributions of girls and women in athletics, both on and off the field!
For many girls, sports serve as a platform for building confidence, developing leadership skills, and fostering lifelong friendships. That’s why today, as we honor the victories of women and girl athletes throughout the decades, we must also take a moment to recognize the importance of ensuring that all students, regardless of gender, have access to quality sports programs in our public schools.
Thankfully, Congresswoman Lori Trahan – the ONLY former Division 1 athlete in congress – has been at the forefront of the fight to strengthen girls’ and women’s sports across all levels of competition.
Last February, she reintroduced the Fair Play for Women Act to close Title IX loopholes that deprive women and girls of athletic opportunities in college and K-12 sports. Then, in November, she led nearly 30 Democratic congresswomen in sending a letter to the U.S. Secretary of Education requesting clarity on how Title IX applies to collegiate athlete pay.
Now, she’s fighting back against efforts by the Trump administration and House Republicans to pass legislation that will impose a federal takeover of sports – a move that would ban the participation of transgender children in sports nationwide and endanger the privacy of girls as young as four.
As long as she’s in Congress, Lori will always fight to protect every child athlete’s right to compete in the sports they love. But, friend, she can’t do it alone. Will you chip in today to support her efforts and defend access to sports for all girls? [[link removed]]
