Friend, imagine the coldest temperature you’ve ever endured. Now imagine if you had to endure it with no coat or electricity.
Children and families in places like Afghanistan, Gaza, Syria and Ukraine are facing these kinds of conditions, as frigid temperatures, biting winds and damp clothes are making this winter especially difficult. In many countries, the aftermath of multiple crises means hundreds of thousands of children are experiencing this period without access to food, safe water, shelter, heat or electricity.
For many, it will be their harshest — and even deadliest — winter yet, as conflict, disaster and extreme poverty keep essential cold weather items out of reach.
UNICEF is working to provide essential supplies to help children survive this winter. But as temperatures are plummeting, more support is needed.
A gift from you today will send a winter care package of supplies including blankets, warm jackets and emergency kits to help children brave these freezing conditions. Send your care package today, and help protect children from the cold >>
UNICEF is on the ground and ramping up winterization efforts to help protect children from the harsh weather. Here are a few places where your support could make a difference:
Ukraine
UNICEF is working with local authorities and partners in Ukraine to provide cash assistance, solid fuel, winter clothing, blankets and more to keep 1.2 million people including 200,000 children warm. With so many still displaced, this support is essential to help ensure households can survive the cold winter months.
Gaza
Already dire living conditions in Gaza will deteriorate further with the cold winter temperatures. With children and newborns facing hypothermia and brutal conditions, UNICEF is distributing warm blankets, boots and gloves, along with key shelter and WASH supplies.
Afghanistan
In preparation for freezing temperatures, UNICEF prepositioned heating materials, newborn kits and mobile and nutrition teams to help families in Afghanistan keep children safe and healthy. As temperatures continue to drop, the distribution of winter clothing, shoes and blankets is ongoing to meet the critical needs of families.
As this harsh winter season stretches on, it will continue to threaten children’s livelihoods, education and sanitation. Send a winter care package now to keep children warm, safe and healthy >>
Thank you for being there for children,
