I am completely numb -- their names are more than just a hashtag.

Every year, every month, every day — we’ve seen too many cases of black lives being taken that have shed light on issues like poverty, racism, criminal justice reform, and many other injustices that African-Americans have lived with for too long -- and right-wing extremists refuse to recognize these issues or just plain ignore them.

Our police officers protect Philadelphians every single day, and community-centered policing is an integral way to working together to find solutions to make our communities safer.

It's critical we work at ALL levels of government to support programs that both demand accountability and promote quality of life for our communities.

We can’t keep looking the other way when this keeps happening. Of course all lives matter, but we say “black lives matter” because so many people and systems are constructed as if we don’t, and our lives are wrongly taken at an astonishing rate.

Their names are not just a number -- they are the adversity faced by so many which has not been addressed efficiently by our government and media.

I'm exhausted, but I'm fired up. I'm with you in demanding action, and am doing everything in my power to change things at the federal level. We must do better, America -- and we must stick together in order to make it happen.
