*Gaming Control Board Director Henry Williams reminds Michigan residents to bet responsibly this Super Bowl*
DETROIT, Feb. 5, 2025 — As Super Bowl LIX approaches, set to take place at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on Sunday, Feb. 9, the Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) urges sports fans and bettors to practice responsible betting and wager only through authorized, legal sportsbook operators.
“Each year, the Super Bowl unites millions of fans, football lovers, and bettors around the world," *MGCB Executive Director Henry Williams* said. "As we come together to watch the game, let's remember the importance of responsible betting to guarantee a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone involved."
This year, nearly 225 million Americans in 40 states and territories have access to legal Super Bowl betting in their local markets, according to "Legal Sports Report". It’s estimated that nationwide Super Bowl betting revenue could surpass $100 million for sportsbooks. Additionally, the total betting handle in regulated U.S. markets is expected to rise by more than 15%, setting a new record with over $1.5 billion in wagers.
Before placing any Super Bowl bets, here are a few important tips for potential bettors to keep in mind:
* *Set a Budget: *Establish a betting budget that aligns with your financial situation. Set realistic limits on how much you're willing to wager and stick to those limits throughout the game.
* *Bet Responsibly: *Remember, sports betting is a form of entertainment, not a surefire way to make money. Only wager what you can comfortably afford to lose, ensuring it doesn’t impact your financial well-being or other obligations.
* *Know the Rules: *Familiarize yourself with the rules of sports betting, the odds, and the types of bets available. Educating yourself helps you make informed decisions and reduce potential risks.
* *Use Authorized Sportsbook Operators:* Always bet through legal, licensed sportsbooks for a secure and fair experience. Unlicensed sites can expose you to risks like identity theft, lost deposits, or unpaid winnings. For a list of licensed operators, visit the MGCB website for _approved online sports betting providers [ [link removed] ]_ and a _catalog of legal leagues and bets [ [link removed] ]_.
If you’re gambling online, Michigan residents can set limits on deposits, wagers, and time spent on authorized gaming platforms. These self-imposed limits can only be adjusted with 24 hours' notice.
Both the gaming platforms and the MGCB provide self-exclusion options. To learn more about self-exclusion, visit the responsible gaming or help sections of an authorized operator’s website. Additionally, the MGCB offers statewide self-exclusion for all legal, regulated sites through the _Responsible Gaming Database [ [link removed] ]_ for online gaming, as well as the _Disassociated Persons List [ [link removed] ]_ for the three commercial Detroit casinos — MGM Grand Detroit, MotorCity Casino, and Hollywood Casino at Greektown.
The MGCB also offers a wealth of information and resources on responsible gaming at _Michigan.gov/MGCB under the "Responsible Gaming" page [ [link removed] ]_. For more tips and guidance, we’ve created _DontRegretTheBet.org [ [link removed] ]_. The agency encourages Michigan residents to explore these resources and call 888-223-3044 to speak with an MGCB Responsible Gaming Section Representative for additional support.
"Gambling in any form is for entertainment purposes only. If you or someone you know may have a gambling problem, contact the National Problem Gambling Helpline at 1-800-GAMBLER, text 800GAM, or visit www.1800gamblerchat.org [ [link removed] ]. Help is available 24/7 and is free and confidential. Michigan citizens can also visit the Responsible Gaming page of the MGCB website [ [link removed] ] for information on self-exclusion programs including the Disassociated Persons List and the Internet Gaming and Sports Betting Responsible Gaming Database, and DontRegretTheBet.org [ [link removed] ] for additional tools to game responsibly."
"The Michigan Gaming Control Board shall ensure the conduct of fair and honest gaming to protect the interests of the citizens of the state of Michigan. Learn more at Michigan.gov/MGCB [ [link removed] ]."
