Stop the partisan takeover of the FBI: Tell your Senators to vote NO on
Kash Patel for FBI Director

Dear Friend,

I know that these past two weeks have been a lot. It’s tempting to turn
off all notifications and focus on deep breathing. But we still have the
power to prevent some of the worst-case scenarios of the Trump
Administration from becoming a reality. We can do so right now by speaking
up loudly in opposition to the nomination of an extremely unqualified and
dangerous candidate for FBI Director, Kash Patel, whose nomination carries
enormous implications for the integrity of our justice system.

[ [link removed] ]***SIGN our letter to the U.S. Senate now calling on our Senators to
stand up against the politicization of the FBI and reject Kash Patel as
FBI Director.

There’s a routine shakeup of public officials when a Presidential
administration changes – and then there’s what’s happening at the FBI this
week, which is far from normal. Several senior officials in the FBI have
been directed to resign or retire immediately, otherwise they will be
fired. This comes at the same time as the Justice Department has asked
thousands of FBI agents and employees to complete a survey and detail
their involvement in January 6th investigations – essentially a Trump
loyalty test. [1]

So it’s no surprise that Kash Patel, President Trump’s nominee for FBI
Director, is an unqualified, dangerous extremist who will protect Donald
Trump above all else.

Why is this critical?

The FBI Director directly impacts our nation’s safety and security as the
FBI is the US government’s primary investigative and law enforcement arm.
On top of that critical responsibility, the Director ensures that the FBI
remains an impartial agency that the public trusts. A nonpartisan FBI
Director is key to that goal, and it has been standard for Presidents to
nominate nonpartisan FBI directors since Watergate. [ [link removed] ] To further
distance FBI appointments from political dynamics, unlike other nominees,
the FBI Director serves a 10 year term. Whoever is confirmed in this role
will outlast the Trump presidency. [ [link removed] ]

Not only is Kash Patel extremely unqualified for this essential role –
with no experience in a senior-level law enforcement role or a
Senate-confirmed position [ [link removed] ] – but he also has a clear track record as a
conspiracy theorist, misinformation spreader, election denier, and Trump
loyalist (MAJOR red flag). [ [link removed] ] He’s lied in court, threatened political
opponents with jail time, and violated classified document protocol – a
track record directly at odds with the FBI’s integrity of arbitrating
truth and delivering justice. [ [link removed] ]

To make a dire situation worse: if confirmed as FBI Director, Kash Patel
will have the power to intimidate political opponents, media, and members
of the public by launching criminal prosecutions. And he already has an
“enemies list” of people he identifies as the “Executive Branch Deep
State,” which includes Kamala Harris, Hillary Clinton, and Fiona Hill. [ [link removed] ]
He’s more concerned with shielding Trump from political enemies than
keeping our community safe.

[2]Please take a second to sign our letter telling your Senators to vote
NO on confirming Kash Patel.

We’ve seen this show before. And we didn’t like the ending. Kash Patel’s
vow to use the FBI to “come after” the media harkens back to a dark period
in America’s history when J. Edgar Hoover was the FBI Director and used
his power to investigate, undermine, and discredit civil rights leaders,
feminists, anti-war activists, students, and other critics. Under J. Edgar
Hoover, the FBI wasn’t only prosecuting people who broke the law, but also
abusing their power in order to undermine and discredit the political
opposition. [ [link removed] ]

This politicization of the justice system poses threats to Democrats,
Republicans, and everyone in between who may speak out against any
government policy. The right to free speech is enshrined in our
constitution, and no one in America should be afraid that they will be
criminally investigated or prosecuted because they have exercised those
rights.

Our children must be inspired to speak out, use their voices, and pursue
public service free from the fear that such service will subject them to
political persecution. We need an FBI Director with experience and
impartial judgement to keep us safe. Patel’s track record has shown that
he is not that leader. [ [link removed] ]

[3]Tell your Senators to stand up against the politicization of the FBI
and vote NO on confirming Kash Patel.

Thank you for all that you do! Together, we are the leaders our nation
needs right now.
