Water Drop
Our work in the desert continues

We started our year off with the January Water Drop, in which we started a new route by where Oscar was found, a migrant who tragically passed away while trying to visit family after his father’s death. His story reminds us of the harsh realities that many face in the desert, and the importance of our work.

Thanks to our amazing volunteers—both new and returning—we placed 5 crates filled with water, food, electrolytes, and other supplies along the nre route. These provisions are a lifeline to those on their journey, offering a small but vital moment of relief in the vast desert.

You can help us continue this work. We need your support to keep this program running. If you’re able, please consider donating through our wish list. We especially need Gatorades, crates, water, and pop-top food cans to ensure we can provide essential resources to those in need.

Every drop counts. Every effort matters. Together, we honor the lives of all those lost and continue to stand in solidarity with those who need it most.

Day Laborer Outreach
Supporting the day laborer community in trying times

This past week, we held our Day Laborer Outreach and visited two sites at Home Depot locations off Fairmount and Broadway with an amazing group of volunteers: Joey, her baby boy, sister-in-law Adriana, and Leticia. We brought much-needed supplies like water, Gatorade, fruit snacks, Capri Suns, Rice Krispies, mandarin oranges, and earplugs to keep everyone going during their long shifts.

As ICE raids continue this week, we checked in on these sites and unfortunately, ICE had been spotted at both locations. At Fairmount, laborers shared they felt uneasy searching for work due to the increased ICE presence. Some also mentioned ongoing Home Depot security harassment, leading to fewer than 20 laborers there when we arrived.

Over at Broadway, things were a bit better—security wasn’t causing issues, and there were around 30-40 laborers. A few had even moved from Fairmount to avoid the harassment.

What really stood out during our visit was seeing a larger Haitian laborer community than usual, and we’re so grateful to have volunteers who were there to help translate and connect with them. As soon as the Haitian laborers heard Creole, they gathered around to get the important info we were sharing—especially about Know Your Rights (KYR) cards. It’s crucial for these workers to know their rights so they don’t fall prey to fear or intimidation tactics.

We’ll keep showing up and supporting however we can.

Caravan of Love
An amazing way to close out 2024!

Our Caravan of Love event was a beautiful reminder of the power of community, kindness, and giving. Thanks to the generosity of our incredible supporters and volunteers, we were able to collect and deliver a mountain of toys to children in need across 5 shelters in Tijuana.

With 6 cars in our caravan, we drove from San Diego to Tijuana, bringing hope and holiday cheer to so many families. The love and gratitude we received along the way was overwhelming, and it’s all thanks to YOU.

As we wrap up this year, we’re so grateful for all the magic we’ve created together. Here’s to an even bigger and brighter 2025 — more love, more impact, and more ways to give back. Stay tuned, the best is yet to come!

News Spotlight:

The fight continues: Border activists brace for Trump's return
For almost 40 years, Border Angels has been one of many organizations along the U.S.-Mexico border that has worked to ease the harsh realities faced by migrants who cross into the United States. With their water drop program, they strategically place basic necessities along commonly traveled paths.

s Donald Trump’s inauguration nears, the group is bracing for what the future might bring under a president who has vowed to send military troops to the border and launch mass deportations on Day One. Despite these challenges, the San Diego-based group’s volunteers are driven to show up in these barren regions along the border to help protect lives. For many, the work is deeply personal.

Stranded in Mexico: Afghan Asylum Seekers in Limbo After CBP One Shutdown
For over seven months, Arian has been patiently waiting in Mexico City.

The former Afghanistan journalist, who is seeking asylum, would log onto CBP One every morning, attempting unsuccessfully to secure a coveted appointment with U.S. immigration officials.

Like thousands of immigrants worldwide, Arian, whose last name is being withheld out of fear, relied on the CBP One program to present his asylum case at the U.S. border. The mobile app offered services such as immigration appointments by U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Arian fled his homeland after the Taliban seized power in August 2021, traveling through Iran, Brazil, and the treacherous Darién Gap, hoping to find refuge in the United States.
