I’m writing to talk about something very serious.

This weekend Elon Musk took unprecedented and unconstitutional steps to interfere with our federal agencies. Over the past few days Musk has undermined the federal workforce and now has unauthorized access to sensitive taxpayer and personal data. This includes the private information of everyone currently receiving Social Security and Medicare benefits. His actions were so extreme the highest ranking official at the Treasury Department has resigned.

This is not just troubling — it’s a crisis. An unelected billionaire does not have the Constitutional power to undermine our federal government and it’s vital that we fight back.

I’m taking two important actions right now to combat this overreach. The first is immediately protecting public funds and tightening restrictions on who can access sensitive government data. The second is we need to safeguard the federal payment systems that provide benefits for millions of Americans. I am supporting legislation to stop unlawful access to the Department of Treasury’s Bureau of the Fiscal Service, which processes payments for Social Security and Medicare.

This isn’t about politics, this is about an unconstitutional power grab and to be frank, Democrats need to step up and fight back. We can’t allow anyone — especially Elon Musk — to put Americans’ personal information and security at risk.
