Stepping Up to Help

What to Know:  The full impact of the COVID-19 crisis will be hardest felt by the most vulnerable—and those charitable organizations that help them.

The TPPF Take:  Beyond the health-related consequences of this crisis, we are yet to feel the full economic consequences of a government-mandated pause on commerce.

“As conservatives, we believe those best suited to provide charity are individuals and community organizations,” says TPPF’s Kevin Roberts.  “Unfortunately, as more Texans are driven to economic hardship, these non-profit organizations are also experiencing financial hardship. Please join us as we support the organizations that transform lives, providing meaning, purpose, and dignity, better than any government program ever could.”

Risking the Elections

What to Know: Expanding voting by mail could imperil democracy by undermining the election process, warns Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton

The TPPF Take: We must ensure that the responses to the COVID-19 pandemic aren’t worse than the illness itself.

“We must ensure the integrity of one of our most essential rights as citizens—voting in free and fair elections,” says TPPF’s Quico Canseco. “Because of the risks, including inaccurate rolls, vulnerability to fraud, and the sheer logistical challenges, a rush to expanding vote by mail would harm the rights of all Texans.”

Green New Disease Vector

What to Know: It shouldn’t really be a surprise that population density has proven to be a significant factor in the coronavirus pandemic—and with density comes mass transit.

The TPPF Take: There’s a much stronger statistical correlation between mass transit use and COVID-19 deaths than lockdown measures and the spread of the illness.

“Had the Green New Deal and its vision of a virtually carless future with trains, subways, and buses connecting densely packed transit-oriented developments been enacted 20 years ago, how bad might the nation’s virus losses have been so far?” asks TPPF’s Chuck DeVore. “Social distancing and subway use are mutually exclusive—low passenger density defeats the purpose of the subway and any other mass transit system.”
