Today, President Trump announced plans to end the Department of Education and return education policy to the states. Congressman David Rouzer recently introduced H.R. 369, the States’ Education Reclamation Act, which responsibly dismantles the Department and returns taxpayer dollars to the states where they can choose to fund teacher pay raises, build new schools, or any other purposes to enhance education.
The Department of Education was created with the intention of reversing stagnating education performance amongst Americans. Since 1980, the Department’s budget has ballooned from $14 billion to over $100 billion while failing to vastly improve students’ performance in math, science and reading.
The States’ Education Reclamation Act would reallocate billions of dollars proportionally to states so taxpayer dollars used for bureaucratic overhead would be used to actually improve education outcomes for our country’s children.
