Email from Rep. Mann Message from Rep. Tracey Mann. Having Trouble Viewing? Click Here. Fellow Kansan, Thank you for subscribing to my newsletter. Like the rest of the world, I was devastated to learn about the crash of American Airlines Flight 5342 last week. Audrey and I join the world in praying for peace and comfort for their families, loved ones, and our community. My team and I stand ready to assist any Kansan in the Big First District impacted by this tragedy. For more information on what I'm working on this week, follow me on social media. I do not serve in Congress to be a caretaker in the slow demise of America— I serve to fight and work to make it stronger. That’s what I am doing while believing our brightest days are yet to come. Yours in service, Click below to follow me on social media. Mann.House.Gov The Week Ahead The U.S. House of Representatives is back in session for a week of legislative and committee activity. House Republicans are upholding our word to deliver on the country's November 5 mandate and to bring commonsense solutions back to the nation's capital. This week, we will consider the HALT Fentanyl Act, which permanently changes Fentanyl and related substances from a Schedule 2 drug to a Schedule 1 drug. It also puts more safeguards around how fentanyl can be used in research while increasing penalties associated with trafficking fentanyl and fentanyl-related substances. The House will also consider legislation to make America energy independent again. The Protecting American Energy Production Act would prohibit any federal moratorium on offshore drilling. To be energy independent, we need an all-of-the-above energy approach, not Green New Deal policies that pick winners and losers. I look forward to supporting both of these bills that restore commonsense to Washington, D.C. and help keep our country safe. Meetings in the Office Special Olympics Kansas Kansas Fraternal Order of Police Kansas Department of Transportation Secretary Calvin Reed Kansas Main Street American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association Vaulted Haskell Indian Nations University Standing for the Right to Life Every life, born or unborn, has value and is worthy of protection. I was proud to cosponsor the Heartbeat Protection Act, which would prohibit aborting a baby after an unborn child has a detectable heartbeat. It would also make it a crime for a physician to knowingly perform an abortion without determining whether the baby has a detectable heartbeat or informing the mother of the results. I will aways advocate for the life and dignity of every child. Protecting The Southern Border Under the Biden-Harris Administration, the United States had the worst border crisis in our nation's history. President Biden and Vice President Harris ushered 16 million illegal immigrants into the country without any proper background checks or vetting. There is a reason 77 million Americans, including me, trust President Trump more with our border security and national security. I am a cosponsor of the REMAIN in Mexico Act, which reinstates President Trump's Remain in Mexico policy. Under the policy, migrants seeking asylum at the U.S.-Mexico border will remain in Mexico until their asylum claims are processed. During President Trump's first term, this policy greatly deterred asylum abuse on our southern border. It's a commonsense solution, and I am hopeful the House will swiftly consider our legislation. Honoring Kansas Ag Heroes During his post-war victory tour, President Eisenhower famously said, “The proudest thing I can claim is that I am from Abilene.” Kansas’ favorite son’s words rang true with many Kansans then and now. Just ask Kevin Harris, a native of Abilene who has shared the magic of his small town with people across the world. Over the years the relationships Kevin fostered has allowed him to host various international groups to his family farm in Abilene and help expand market access for Kansas farmers, ranchers, and agricultural producers. Much of world history in the 1940s and early 1950s were defined by a young man from Abilene restoring peace and prosperity to the world. Some 80 years later, that legacy lives on in Kansans like Kevin. That is why he is this month's agriculture hero. Thank you Kevin, for answering the noble call to feed the world. January Ag Hero In the Office Advocating for Kansas Agriculture Each year, the Kansas corn, grain sorghum, soybean and wheat growers' associations gather for an annual convention. I was happy to join them at the Kansas Commodity Classic last week to discuss the need for strong, sound farm policy. We also discussed legislation I've introduced this Congress to unhandcuff our producers and help them make an honest living without being continuously burdened by the federal government and more. Thank you, Kansas agricultural producers for all you do to feed, clothe, and fuel the world. Meeting with Kansas Sorghum Producers The Big First District of Kansas is the number one sorghum producing district in the country by far. That's why I have been a tireless advocate for policies that make life easier for sorghum producers, not harder. I got to hear from sorghum producers in our district about their biggest concerns and issues over the next few months and how Congress can empower them in their efforts to feed the world.
