Dear friends,
Over the last few months, we’ve been sharing about how the United Nations Sexual and Reproductive Health agency’s (UNFPA) lifesaving care is at risk for defunding this year.
The U.S. President has the authority to defund UNFPA at any time, and because Donald Trump defunded UNFPA in his first administration, we’ve been bracing for another likely defunding from the Trump Administration.
The specific moment of defunding has not officially happened yet. But U.S. funding for our lifesaving care has been officially frozen by the Trump Administration's recent 90-day stop work order.
This is different from a defunding. In the event of a defunding, we would not receive any new funding from the U.S. government. But this 90-day stop work order means that there is a complete suspension on already-approved funds that women and girls around the world are counting on .
For pregnant mothers, newborns, and women and girls around the world, this is a life-or-death moment. Key programs in places like Gaza, Pakistan, Sudan, Yemen, and Haiti are already feeling the impact of this suspension — but we are determined to continue funding them no matter what happens with the U.S. government policy. That’s why we are asking for an emergency donation today to help us fill this gap in expected funding and continue delivering care to as many women and girls as possible. Will you make a generous gift right now? [[link removed]?]

Team — here are just a few of the immediate impacts of this stop work order:
* In Gaza , UNFPA’s mobile health clinics will be forced to stop operations. For 50,000 pregnant women already struggling to access maternal care, this could be a death sentence.
* In Pakistan , 62 health facilities serving a population of 1.7 million will be shut down.
* In Ukraine , around 400,000 women and girls will be cut off from psychosocial support, gender-based violence services, safe spaces, and economic empowerment programs.
* In Afghanistan , 1,712 female services providers will be laid off, leaving over 9 million beneficiaries without care.
In total, experts estimate that this freeze of programs from UNFPA and other organizations delivering reproductive healthcare will result in 11.7 million women and girls losing access to vital care, 4.2 million unintended pregnancies, and nearly 10,000 maternal deaths — all in just 90 days.
Unfortunately, with all the political twists and turns ahead, it is women and girls who will suffer.
We are dedicated to being there for every woman and girl, no matter what. But to do that, we need your help. Will you make a generous emergency gift to continue delivering care to women and girls during this time of uncertainty? [[link removed]?]
With gratitude,
