Indivisibles,

Earlier this year, Mitch McConnell boasted that he was going to be the
“grim reaper” of progressive legislation.

And here’s the thing: he’s right. Under McConnell’s watch hundreds of
people have died because again and again and again and again and again,
he’s stood with the NRA and blocked even basic gun violence prevention
measures.

But it’s not just McConnell -- every politician who’s failed to act on gun
violence or used Senate procedures to block legislation has blood on their
hands. And so does everyone who’s turned a blind eye to the racism and
white supremacy our country is built on. (More on how racism, gun violence
and the fillibuster intersect in the email below.)

The House is returning early from recess on September 4th to take action
on Gun Violence. But so far, McConnell’s Senate is planning NOTHING. So
now is the time to make sure we talk to every single senator about how
important this is.

Our plan to stem the epidemic of gun violence, combat white supremacy,
elect progressive leaders, and move our country forward has a lot of
moving pieces. Everything from keeping the website live and full of
resources (hosting: $2,000/month) to sending text messages to our national
activist list (SMS tool: $6,000/message) to mapping out town halls and
other events for Indivisibles to attend (map system: $6,000/month) to
providing toolkits explaining complex policy issues (hundreds of hours of
staff time) adds up to a lot of money that we need to support the most
important part of our work: Indivisibles calling your Members of Congress,
showing up at events, and taking action.

After we emailed you last week, 713 Indivisibles donated to fund our work
and we raised about $15,000 which is a great start (thank you so much!).
But the fact is we need to raise more to keep Indivisible Action funded
for the long-haul. So if you’re all in to end gun violence, fight racism,
elect progressives and more, chip in $10 to Indivisible Action right
away:

Maybe Mitch thinks being a Grim Reaper is a legacy to be proud of, but we
sure don’t. And we’re doing everything we can to stop him -- in the
Senate, at the ballot box, and in the streets. And while the news cycle
may have moved on from El Paso and Dayton, we’re still doing the hard work
nationwide. Thanks for being with us.

In solidarity,

Indivisible Team

Subject: Donald Trump’s racist policies and rhetoric, and Mitch
McConnell’s adoration of guns and refusal to implement even basic gun
violence prevention measures are combining to make our country’s racism
and our gun violence bloodbath even worse.

Indivisibles,

We want to share with you something that the American Psychological
Association (APA) [ [link removed] ]released on Sunday:

“As our nation tries to process the unthinkable yet again, it is clearer
than ever that we are facing a public health crisis of gun violence
fueled by racism, bigotry and hatred. The combination of easy access to
assault weapons and hateful rhetoric is toxic… One critical factor is
access to, and the lethality of, the weapons that are being used in
these crimes. Adding racism, intolerance and bigotry to the mix is a
recipe for disaster.”

The APA doesn’t name names, but we will: Donald Trump’s racist policies
and rhetoric combined with Mitch McConnell’s adoration of guns and refusal
to implement even basic gun violence prevention measures are making our
country’s racism and our gun violence bloodbath even worse.

In order to stem this epidemic, we need to do a lot of things: We need to
elect leaders who have the bravery to face down the NRA, and who will
close the detention camps. We need to get Trump off Twitter and out of
office. We need to eliminate anti-democracy rules like the filibuster that
allow McConnell to kill any gun violence prevention bill before it reaches
a vote. We need to Defund Hate and dismantle the Trump Deportation
Machine.

One of our jobs at Indivisible is to provide tools and resources so that
we can make all of that work as easy and effective as possible for you --
but that costs a lot of money.

We pay for text messages to keep activists apprised of what’s going on
(that’s about $6,000 per full-list message). We build toolkits to help
Indivisibles understand often-complicated bills and policy asks (the
toolkits can take hundreds of hours to build). We build back-end
infrastructure to organize events (a map helping activists find their
local town halls alone costs us another $6,000). We buy access to voter
contact software and email tools, and pay for online ads and paper mailers
to get these people out of office.

If you can, please chip in $10 to help defray those costs and support
Indivisible. Your donation to Indivisible Action will fund those tools and
our other work, and is an investment in taking back the Senate, ending gun
violence, and pushing forward all of Indivisible’s priorities.

We cannot stop the slaughter happening in this country without doing a lot
of work. No one of these solutions will get us all the way there without
the others. We’re grateful and humbled that you’ve helped us build this
movement of people fighting on every front to make our country better.

In solidarity,

Indivisible Team
