John,
For months, Donald Trump has been threatening tariffs on two of our closest allies — Canada and Mexico — betraying years of friendship and support. While those tariffs were supposed to go into effect earlier this week, both countries have reached a deal with the Trump administration to delay the tariffs for 30 days.
If they go into effect, Donald Trump's tariffs on Canada and Mexico will mean higher costs of fuel, lumber, vehicles, appliances, groceries, and even maple syrup that American businesses and families rely on every day. This is unacceptable.
Congress gave presidents the authority to impose tariffs to protect national security, not to use as a weapon to strongarm against our closest allies. Trump has never been interested in smart economic policy or protecting our alliances. He’s interested in picking fights and doubling down on bad ideas, no matter how much they cost the American people.
That’s why Chris just introduced the Stopping Tariffs on Allies and Bolstering Legislative Exercise of (STABLE) Trade Policy Act, a bill designed to stop any president from abusing their tariff authority out of spite or personal grudges. This shouldn’t be a partisan issue — it’s about making sure American families and businesses don’t have to pay the price for reckless leadership.
We need to make it clear: Americans won’t stand for Trump’s chaos. Can you chip in today to help Chris fight back? >> [link removed]
