John, Last week Rep. Jerry Nadler sent out a fundraising email claiming that his ‘grassroots campaign’ doesn’t ‘rely on special interests.’ He also said he opposes the ‘desires of billionaires, big corporations, and their lobbyists.’ These statements are misleading at best. The fact is, Rep. Nadler has taken money from the very corporations he is supposed to be regulating. Rep. Nadler has been campaigning on his leadership over the antitrust investigations into big tech, yet over the last year, his filing shows he’s taken almost $20k from internet companies, $30k from telecom, and Sheryl Sandberg is one of his donors.1 While this is surprisingly not illegal, it is certainly a conflict of interest given the ‘special interests’ of these companies in an antitrust ruling that Rep. Nadler may preside over. We are proud of the fact that our campaign is made up of individual contributions. Half of our contributions come from women, many of whom are moms who are still waiting for their companies to offer Paid Family Leave, can’t find reliable childcare, and don’t get paid equally to their male counterparts — especially after they’ve had babies. Do you think these would still be issues if we had more women in office? Your support has meant everything to us. We have 4 weeks left to show the establishment what grassroots really means.
