Dear John xxxxxx,

USAID is at risk of being shut down - We Must Act Now

Elon Musk, with the backing of President Trump, has moved to shut down USAID—America’s largest humanitarian aid agency—without congressional approval. This reckless action harms millions of lives worldwide and threatens U.S. national security.

Urge your members of Congress to act now by stopping this unconstitutional attack on global humanitarian efforts.

Why USAID Matters:

For over 60 years, USAID has provided life-saving assistance in over 130 countries, delivering $50 billion annually in foreign aid. It plays a crucial role in:

  • Food aid to famine-stricken regions
  • Medical care for conflict zones
  • Disaster relief in crisis areas
  • Democracy & development in fragile states

Why This Matters:

  • Trump’s executive order halted all foreign aid for 90 days, leaving millions in crisis.
  • Elon Musk falsely called USAID a “criminal organization” and convinced Trump to dismantle it.
  • USAID headquarters were shut down overnight—employees locked out, aid programs frozen.
  • Musk’s team forcibly accessed classified information from USAID without proper security clearance.

Countries and Communities Most Affected:

  • Syria: $895 million for food, healthcare, and refugee assistance.
  • Ethiopia: $1.9 billion for food security, healthcare, and education.
  • Somalia: $1.1 billion for drought relief and counterterrorism.
  • Yemen: $1 billion for emergency food, clean water, and medical care.
  • Democratic Republic of Congo: $973 million for Ebola response, displacement aid, and poverty relief.

Constitutional Crisis:

❌ No president has the power to unilaterally dissolve an agency created by Congress.

❌ USAID was established by law in 1961—an Executive Order cannot undo it.

❌ Trump’s executive order is an unconstitutional abuse of power—bypassing congressional.

✅ Congress must act NOW to block this reckless move and restore USAID’s operations.

In solidarity,

Iman Awad,
