E&E News ([link removed]) (2/04/25) reports: "Interior Secretary Doug Burgum issued orders Monday to revoke the Biden administration’s withdrawal of federal offshore waters and parts of Alaska from consideration for oil drilling, a move that is all but certain to face legal challenges from environmental groups. The department announced the action as part of Burgum’s first round of secretarial orders directing the agency to follow through on President Donald Trump’s pledges to expand fossil fuel production on public land. Interior said it was carrying out Trump’s intentions when he signed an executive order declaring a national energy emergency and would 'immediately identify all emergency and legal authorities available' to promote energy development on federal land."

Let them eat solar panels.

(2/03/25) writes: "Corn occupies more land than any other crop in the US. A third of the corn harvest is used to make ethanol, which is an ingredient in the gasoline that powers our cars. Now that the transition to electric vehicles is in full swing, would that land be better used to generate electricity? In 2021, Iowa’s largest solar farm commenced operation. According to regulatory filings, the Wapello Solar project occupies 1000 acres, 900 of which had previously been used to grow row crops such as corn and soybeans, and it generates 218,900 megawatt hours (MWh) of electricity per year. If all the electricity generated by these panels were used to power a Nissan Leaf, it could travel 900,000 miles per year per acre of lost cropland."
Made you look.

(2/03/25) reports: "President Trump and the leaders of Mexico and Canada struck last-minute deals on Monday to postpone the imposition of hefty tariffs on goods exported to the United States, averting at least temporarily a damaging trade war that would roil North America and the global economy. Canada’s prime minister, Justin Trudeau, after speaking twice by telephone with Mr. Trump, said U.S. tariffs on his country’s goods would be postponed by 30 days as negotiations on a border deal took place."
Off to work we go.

(2/03/25) reports: "The U.S. can learn much from the ongoing war in Ukraine but perhaps there is no more important lesson than to reinvest in America’s defense industrial base and our productive capacity. From the munitions to the materials used to produce them, U.S. productive capacity is a shell of its once war-winning self. Our inability to produce the weapons and supply the components and even minerals needed for our weapons systems has become an extraordinary vulnerability."
